In conjunction with The David Henry Agency, CFWebmasters releases American Athlete Magazine an online digital only magazine focusing on the American Athlete’s inner life.
Based on the latest version of DotNetNuke Professional, the American Athlete project utilizes a responsive design and features of the new Client API included in DotNetNuke 6 to create a special “hybrid” between the responsive design concept and a content limited design for mobile devices.
While most responsive design projects are created to shift and hide content based on the device viewing the website, the content delivery mechanism never actually prevents unwanted content from being delivered to the client. This unwanted effect usually results in extra bandwidth consumed on devices where bandwidth is more sensitive.
Using the DotNetNuke 6 client API, CFWebmasters was able to disable content blocks on the server side, prior to being delivered to the client’s browser. The result was a responsive design that shifts and displays the website in an optimal format for a desktop computer, iPADs, Tablets and mobile devices while at the same time eliminated unwanted content from being delivered in a wasteful way to the client device.
This experimental method provides a single website for content management based on DotNetNuke, while still allowing targeted designs for tablets and mobile devices. This precludes the need for American Athlete Magazine to have a standard desktop website, and be forced to maintain a separate but distinct Mobile presence with the requirement to update content on two different websites.
